The Success Bulletin of Dave Cordle Coaching

How's the limelight for you?

Hello %FirstName%.

If you’re reading this in Great Britain, you’ll probably find this bulletin just a little bit uncomfortable (but please do read on) because we’re going to look at the good things other people say about you.

If you’re outside of Great Britain, I’m curious to know whether people in your part of the world find it uncomfortable or embarrassing accepting compliments, or do most people take them in and appreciate them?

Let’s open the box and get stuck in.

.

You need to really listen to this!

If you’re a business owner, it’s important know what people think of your services/products and hopefully you're used to asking for feedback. If you’re an employee, it’s actually quite rare to be in an environment where giving and asking for positive feedback is the norm.

Let me give you an example. I often run career development workshops for organisations. When we’re talking about the benefits people bring to their company, I often go round the table and, for each person, get the rest of the group to tell them what they observe to be that person’s top skills and qualities. ...and you know what? People often find that a bit uncomfortable or embarrassing at first.

But I quickly see their faces light up as they clearly feel delighted at what their colleagues are saying. The great thing is that not only does it confirm some of the things that the person already knew, but almost always it highlights good or great things that someone hadn’t recognised in themselves.

So this month I’ve got two rather pleasant things for you to be doing:

  • Make a list of your skills and your great personal qualities
  • Ask some other people “what do you see as my top skills and personal qualities?” or "what do you like about working with me?"

And one final thing to do: when someone pays you a compliment this month, however big or small, don't dismiss it or put yourself down, really listen, and just say "thank you" and take a few moments to recognise that they are right.

Have fun and here’s to your increasing success.

Dave

P.S. I'd better practice what I preach, so I’ll lead the way; please tell me how you’ve benefitted from reading this or previous bulletins or, if you’ve worked directly with me, how that has benefitted you: go to https://www.facebook.com/DaveCordleCoach and click on the Review this Business button in "Our Reviews". Alternatively, if you can send me an email.
