Yes, it's Rocket Science!

Horley East Brownies are participating in an experiment with astronaut, Tim Peake. They are one of the thousands of groups taking part in a nationwide project to see how gravity affects Rocket Seeds and to encourage children to get more involved in Science.

In September 2015 2kg. of Rocket Seeds were flown to the International Space Station, Soyuz 443 where they spent several months in microgravity before returning to Earth in March 2016.

The Brownies planted their 100 space seeds plus 100 that haven’t been to space with the help of the Horley Town Mayor, Richard Olliver.

Differences in growth will be measured over 7 weeks but the Brownies won’t know which packet contained which seeds until the results have been collected by the R.H.S. and analysed by professional biostatisticians.

Changes to Fire and Rescue in Surrey – have your say at Community Events

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service reviewing its services and wants to know what matters to residents, staff and stakeholders.

A public consultation on our ‘Public Safety Plan’ which outlines the Service’s plans for 2016 – 2025, will run from 27 April – 7 June 2016*.

To support this, three public meetings are being held during May for stakeholders to find out more and share views on our proposals. Proposed changes include working closer with other emergency services, reviewing how we respond to automatic fire alarms and how quickly we respond to 999 calls.  An opportunity to tour the fire station, meet local firefighters and learn vital safety advice will take place during the second hour of each event.

Please do come along if you can and also help us to spread the word in your local areas.

Free places can be booked by clicking on your chosen event:

·        Saturday 7 May 11am – 1pm at Chertsey fire station
·        Wednesday 18 May 7pm – 9pm at Guildford fire station
·        Thursday 19 May 7pm – 9pm at Surrey Fire and Rescue Service, Reigate

St George's Day Fayre & Parade

Organised by the Horley Association of Traders (HATs) the St George's Day Fayre and Parade took place on Saturday, 23 April, with many attending the popular event held in the High Street.

Arround 50 stalls sold jewellery, scarves, children's clothes and books at the event and there were also live bands including inChoir.  St George and his dragon are pictured here (photo by kind permission of Grant Melton, Surrey Mirror).

HATs have told us "what a great St George's day we had in Horley. Really well supported by local business's, stall holders, volunteers, musicians and of course everyone who came along to enjoy the event celebrating our national saints day. It was the most stalls we have ever had, and we think it was the busiest St George's day in Horley yet. We will be back next year, bigger and better (St George's feet may have stopped hurting by then)."
