Weekly Update from Jayne Stevens (Participation Co-ordinator)...

Hello - hope everyone who attended enjoyed our EHCP workshop that we held on Monday 15th Oct (for people who are looking to apply for one!) - some really useful information about the process and how to get it right; of course schools must be ensuring they are doing all they can to meet your child's needs via SEN support and access to the ISF Fund (you can find more about this on the Local Offer!), I've attended a Mental Health in Schools conference in London and this followed on from work we did at the CAMHS workshops at the beginning of the year which demonstrated the importance of mental health support in schools - some really good practice out there and you might notice that I've shared information from the Anna Freud Foundation over this past week - well worth a look if you have the time. We had a really useful transport discussion at our family group in Hollinswood and the reporting from this has been shared on the PODS 'Chatspace' group for our members to read through. Thursday and Friday were taken up with Preparing for Adulthood Workshops with a focus on writing outcomes, understanding the process around transition and hearing from local young people who had been supported into work - some great work going on and this will all be shared via our involvement with working groups at the council.

This last week has been spent mainly preparing for the Aiming High for SEND meetings - where all the SEND team leads from Health, Education and Social Care come together to share their work areas, a data dashboard is presented to the Chair of this and she reports to higher authority and Directors. It's important that the information shared is much more than a list of numbers, and I'm there to represent families to ensure a balanced view and to challenge where necessary. We are pleased that the Chair of this board will be joining our Steering Group meeting in November to hear direct from our Parent reps and also to help us understand the processes around reporting. We are keen to ensure that SEND becomes everyone's business so are looking for ways to extend this out to EVERYONE in the council and health teams - more about that in coming months! This week has also seen the health and council teams from Telford and Shropshire joining together to discuss services and what the offer is around Autism - this is a series of workshops that will help to highlight what is out there but more importantly where the gaps are and how they can be filled. It has already been noted through the Aiming High work that Autism is a priority area for commissioning of services. We've ended this week with a family group in Dawley where families access information, talk about issues affecting them and their children and also access the Face 2 Face Scheme too.

Hope everyone has a good half term and I'll catch up with you when I'm back on 5th November :) Thank you for reading - Jayne Stevens (Participation Co-ordinator)
