Max Cards are Back in Stock!

A new batch of Max Cards have just been received, they are available from PODS family groups and events at a cost of £3.00 each.

The Max Card is designed to make days out more financially accessible for foster families and families of children with additional needs. Families simply show their Max Card upon entry to a venue in order to obtain free or discounted admission.

The scheme is designed to help these families save money on great days out - locally and throughout the UK - at castles, zoos, bowling alleys and more.

See http://www.mymaxcard.co.uk/ for more details.

Weekly Update from Jayne Stevens (Participation Co-ordinator)...

1st October already - WOW - now it's feeling like Autumn all of a sudden... Last week started on Tuesday for me workwise - (following on from a CAMHS appt for my son - least said about that the better!). I was needed to attend the Carers Partnership Board and there's a fair bit of working going on around community development and hopefully you will have seen some of the Carers Voice leaflets around - albeit for those caring for over 18s. Furthermore, the afternoon in the hub led to conversations around carers assessments and how these worked depending on whether done through a social worker or through carers centre - it's on my list for follow up.

On Wednesday we held a 'Parent Rep' team day at The Edge in Much Wenlock - team building activities, segways and archery - great fun for all involved and a fantastic opportunity to say 'thank you' to our reps who work hard to ensure your voices are carried forward and heard.

Thursday was a day of catching up and working in the office at HQ (Home) and a webinar for how to engage with health - it's been recognised once again how difficult the health system is to negotiate (with hospitals, CCG, links with social care) and it's good to have some background from experts in how to ensure effective engagement which seems to be all about 'evidence and numbers' !!

Last stop in the week was our Family Group in Dawley and been as it was 28th Sept we wore 'red' and asked families to donate through the text-system... Hope Zac liked our photo :) Part of the discussion at family group was around healthy relationships (sex ed as we may well know it) and also issues around puberty etc - so I have set up a closed group for us to start having conversations with a view to holding a workshop for further discussions and see what can be developed to address questions and concerns around this area.

This week starts off with a family group at Admaston, a Funding Meeting with BIG Lottery, a transition event at Southall and a regional meeting, then onto a Preparing for Adulthood/Transition meeting to finish off the week!

Have a good week everyone and feel free to get in touch - Jayne Stevens (Participation Co-ordinator).

Come and join us at our Family Groups...
