Weekly Update from Jayne Stevens (Participation Co-ordinator)...

Good Sunny Morning everyone! Hope you've had chance to enjoy some sunshine with your families - whether at the beach, or a swimming pool keeping cool or taking in the rays, or enjoying time spending it with friends :) This last week has saw us undertaking a day's First Aid training via St John Ambulance - to ensure you are kept safe at any pods events. We've also had training in using a defibrillator too and not as scary as it sounds!

We've been over to Birmingham to understand how to challenge EHCPs - at a higher level including Tribunals and Judicial Reviews (hopefully most can be resolved through discussions and possible tribunals for which there is support locally via IASS). In my role as a Governor at Haughton School I attended some Equality and Diversity training and it still remains that the 2nd spoken language here in Telford & Wrekin is Polish, with 91 languages spoken overall! We had one Family group this week at Hollinswood and welcomed amongst our regulars, a new family who had recently moved to the area.

We have attended a workshop run by FairHome/Little Rascals to discuss gaps in service provision for young people at transition including peer mentoring, housing options, and also wider needs of young people who don't currently meet criteria for disabled child team. Another discussion was held on Thursday morning regarding Sensory Inclusion Service review which took on board wider thoughts around services covered under the High Needs Funding Block that include Learning Behaviour Support, Ed Psychs, Sensory, SEN Team and Portage. This piece of work is been led by an organisation called SEND4Change and we await the response in due course.

Remainder of my time has been spent working on Trustee Reports and Annual Reports, whilst getting ready for our AGM on 4th July (places are been booked fast - book quickly!).

On a personal note, I've had my son's Annual Review at College (he's only been there six months), Lots still to be discussed but the focus on M was second to none and a proper 'celebration' of his achievements :)

This week it's more report writing, a CAMHS Stakeholder meeting later today, Pirates and Princesses tonight, Coffee morning at Haughton, Trustee Meeting, Ops meeting with paid staff, and to round off the week a SEND Leads meeting in Birmingham which is a regional event.

Come and join us at our Family Groups...
