Moving and Handling Advisor, Face2Face Befriender Training & more...

MOVING AND HANDLING ADVISOR

A new service has been commissioned to support parent carers of children and young people. A “Moving and Handling Family Carer Advisor” is now available and you can self-refer to this service on 01952 607783. The new service description is as follows:  “Could your handling tasks be made easier when you are caring for child or young adult at home”

Ask yourself the following

• Do you get problems with back or shoulder strain?

• Are you struggling with a particular transfer - for example helping someone stand up or rolling someone in bed?

• Do you have an existing injury which is getting in the way of your ability to care?

• Do you have moving and handling equipment in your home that you are struggling to use?

• Has the person you are caring for deteriorated and become more difficult to handle?

We offer free one to one home based assessments by a moving and handling advisor which can include:

• Advice and practical input given.

• Individual assessments in the home

• Practical ways to help prevent injury

• Information and advice about back care

• Suggested and possible provision of equipment

Jill Tiernan, Commissioner responsible for this service writes “This will help your confidence in handling tasks and improve your own physical wellbeing.  As part of the home assessment with the  Parent Carer and young person , a moving and handling comfort scoring sheet will be completed prior and post intervention.  This helps to demonstrate the value and impact of the assessment. We see this role as an important part of improving the well being of parent carers and carer in general.  Jo Britton Asst Director of Children and Young People is keen to see this role develop which is great news”

Face2Face Befriender Training

We are growing our team!

Funky Friday

Funky Friday is being held on Friday 2nd March, please note the change of venue.

Weekly Update from Jayne Stevens (Participation Co-ordinator)...

Well, that Half Term whizzed by in a flash! We hope that anyone who attended our family groups enjoyed themselves and liked making Mother's Day Gifts at Hollinswood and Dawley days... We understand that it's important to continue with opportunities in the holidays for families to get together - we hope you agree and alongside this we have also run our drop-ins at Stepping Stones.

Rest of the week has been taken up with writing reports to our Trustees - the people who help us to make the decisions and keep us on track for outcomes. I've written lots of pages for our next printed newsletter too.

Hopefully you will have seen the note regarding Face 2 Face Befriender Training - it's on this main page and also our 'ChatSpace' closed group :)

Next week sees our 2nd family group (new evening group at Pirates and Princesses Adventure Zone) and if any of you are parents of children at Haughton I will see you at their coffee morning on Wednesday :)

Bit of heads up for next Sunday (4th March) - there is a Disability Sports Fun Day at RAF Shawbury starting at 10am.
