Success in South and South East in Bloom

We are delighted to announce that Horley Town Council has again won two prestigious awards at this year’s South & South East in Bloom Awards Ceremony, which was held at the Copthorne Effingham Hotel.

We were very pleased to receive a Silver Gilt Award for the Town Centre for the seventh year and, for the eigth year running, a Silver Gilt Award was also won for Horley Recreation Ground.

The judges said that “overall the Horley Recreation Ground is a nicely presented park with improving facilities for the local community justly retaining its Silver Gilt award".

Chairman & Town Mayor, Cllr Mike George, pictured with Carol Fenton, received the council's awards at the ceremony, and were delighted with Horley’s results.

Congratulations to Cllr David Powell on his successful repeat World Record Sky Dive!

Update from Cllr Powell ...

"The scheduled jump day, 28th July 2017, was very stormy.  The temperature was 112F so the jump was on Sunday, 30th July.  It was sunrise when we took off with a clear sky.  It was the best jump I have ever done and there was no crash landing this time. My partner was all military throughout, wearing camouflage parachute. He is ex-special forces, ex CIA operative and ex-US Marshal, a real hard task master and I felt I was back in the army but he was great.  I am the oldest person at 81 years in the world to tandem skydive from 30,000ft with oxygen freefalling at 300mph for over two minutes."

Congratulations and very welll done David - we all knew you could do it!

You can still sponsor Cllr Powell online and donations will be accepted up until 30-11-2018 on the link shown here
