Working with the Unseen
Saturday 21 January 2017

Speakers:
Marion Green, Yvonne MacNamara, Andy Metcalf, Maureen Slattery-Marsh, Lennox Thomas

Developing models for working with marginalised people, who rarely have access to therapy through the usual channels - such as the homeless - requires considerable thought, flexibility and cultural sensitivity. Our speakers will consider their own experience of taking therapy to those who are so often unseen by the system, and will offer routes and models for doing so.

Fee: Early bird £110 (until 20 Dec 2016)

What is the Goal of Psychotherapy?
Saturday 28 January 2017

Speakers: Linda Cundy, Dr Richard Gipps, Ann Shearer, Dr Phil Mollon

Does psychotherapy need a purpose and direction? And, if there are agreed goals, how are these defined? Or, alternatively, should we view therapy as a journey without a specific destination? Our panel will offer four distinct responses to the question: where are we taking our patients?

Venue: NCVO, 8 All Saints Street, London N1 9RL

Fee: Early bird £110 (until 20 Dec 2016)

Love Sick: Working with people derailed by Eros
Saturday 11 March 2017

Speakers: Dr Christopher Clulow, Janice Hiller, Dr Nicola Kimber-Rogal and Jenny Riddell

Falling in love can be one of the most intense emotional experiences, but what psychological and biological processes are activated when someone is thus enraptured by another? This conference will examine how can we most effectively support patients who are derailed by its impact through misplaced love, repetition compulsion or emotional overwhelm.

Venue: Tavistock Centre, 120 Belsize Lane, London NW3 5BA

Fee: Early bird £110 (until 20 Dec 2016)

Eco-Psychotherapy: Healing and the Natural World
Saturday 18 March 2017

Speakers: Nick Totton, Paul Maitney, Mary-Jayne Rust & Caroline Frizell

This conference brings together the practices of ecology and psychotherapy to illustrate how engagement with nature is a powerful transformative tool, both in itself and - potentially - when integrated into any therapeutic approach. We will consider how concerns for the natural world may be pertinent to much unspoken anxiety in the consulting room, and how this can be worked with psychotherapeutically to create a deeper engagement with nature as a source of healing.

Venue: London Wetlands Centre, Queen Elizabeth's Walk, Barnes, London SW13 9WT

Fee: Free with £50 deposit to secure place, refundable if requested. Contributions will be gratefully received at the event.

Can I Really do This? What are rules of psychotherapy and are they negotiable?
Saturday 25 March 2017

Speakers: Dr Maggie Turp, Dr Julia Buckroyd, Chris Oakley, Dr Calum Neill

Psychotherapy is governed by codes of practice that provide us with some highly considered ethical frameworks, and less defined implicit guidelines. However, certain therapeutic scenarios may call upon the therapist to bend these 'rules' in order to provide the best intervention. When should the therapist's own judgment to be balanced with received wisdom in order for good practice to take place?

Venue: NCVO, 8 All Saints Street, London N1 9RL

Fee: Early bird £110 (until 20 Dec 2016)
