PODS Social Support Group at Blists Hill

Wednesday 17th July 2024 from 10am-12pm at PODS Hub, 1 Hawksworth Road, Central Park, Telford, TF2 9TU

Come and join us at PODS Family Group in Blists Hill Victorian Town for a chat, relax and meet with friendly faces. Ask us for some advice or just enjoy a walk around the village. 

Tickets are available at a subsidised cost of £3 per person. PODS will provide 1 tea/coffee/soft drink to each person booked, however you will have to purchase your own other refreshments if required.  

Places are limited and booking is essential, open to all PODS members living in Telford and Wrekin. Please note that the tickets are non-refundable. Children, of any age, are welcome however if they are under 2 years old, no ticket is required. We will be meeting at the entrance at 10am, please let us know if you will be late or can no longer make it so as the group can enter on time.

PODS Summer Holiday Drawing Session

Wednesday 14th August 2024 from 11am-1pm at PODS Hub, 1 Hawksworth Road, Central Park, Telford, TF2 9TU

PODS are hosting a Summer Drawing Session for young people and their siblings.  

Our sessions have a very relaxed atmosphere but there is always a specific focus. This session is: CHARACTERS 
- though young people do not need to stick to this theme if they prefer not to - 

Tickets: £3 per young person attending  

All the materials needed will be provided to all the young people booked. Young People are welcome to bring their own creations, reference images and/or materials if they wish  

Parents/carers to stay on the site during the session. All tickets are non-refundable.

SEND and Alternative Provision Change Programme Update

The main proposals that the SEND Review initially set out to achieve include: 

• Creating a single national SEND and AP system aiming for greater consistency of support and provision for children with SEND.  
• Excellent provision from early years to adulthood to ensure children and young people with SEND are prepared to thrive in employment and/or higher education.  
• Alternative Provision to support children whose behaviour and other needs present a barrier to learning.  
• System roles, accountabilities and funding reform to ensure clarity and effective collaboration.  
• Delivering change so children can thrive, and families are able to navigate the system.

"A consultation on changes to the disability benefit Personal Independence Payment (PIP) closes on Tuesday 23 July.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has set out options for reforming PIP in England and Wales. The green paper Modernising Support for Independent Living includes:

Redesigning assessments to target disabled people and people with a formal diagnosis.

Making assessments more linked to a person’s condition.

Moving away from a fixed-cash benefit system to vouchers or payments based on people submitting receipts for expenditure.

Placing more responsibility on local services to better meet disabled people’s needs.

At Contact, we are worried that a desire to make spending cuts could have a serious impact on disabled young people.

You can respond to the consultation by completing an online form."
