Join PODS this May for a variety of activity sessions! Tickets must be booked via the links below and must be purchased for each child/young person attending. Parents and carers are required to attend with their children/young people. For more information please email jeannie@podstelford.org.

SEND Award - NHS

"Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin (STW) gained well-deserved national recognition for its work within the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) arena at the first ever NHS England SEND Best Practice Conference held last month, on Tuesday 12 March.

The national conference brought SEND leaders, children and young people, and parent carers together to celebrate teamwork and partnership working in SEND.  The day honoured individuals and systems who contribute to inclusive cultures and positive outcomes for people with SEND.

Two of the county’s SEND projects were shortlisted for the notable categories of ‘Co-Production for Parent Carers’ and ‘Health and Education Partnership’.

Gareth Robinson, Executive Director of Delivery and Transformation for NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, said: “We are delighted to announce that Parents Opening Doors (PODS), the parent carer organisation for Telford,  and the Telford and Wrekin Educational Psychology Service, with support from NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, were honoured with first place in the parent carer co-production category for their ‘Challenges at Home’ project, which supports families on a group and individual basis while their children are waiting for an assessment for neurodiversity"

PODS Minecraft Club

Tuesday 7th May 2024 from 4pm-5pm at PODS Hub, 1 Hawksworth Road, Central Park, Telford, TF2 9TU

A chance to come together and enjoy a session of Minecraft. Please note Minecraft will be accessed via PODS iPads which are linked to one another to allow multiplayer options. Children will not be able to access their own Minecraft accounts for safety reasons. 
Sessions open to children and young people of all ages who are members of PODS including their siblings.

Drinks and biscuits provided. Session costs are non-refundable, parent/carer/PA must remain on site for the duration of the session. Please ensure every Child/young person attending has a ticket, those attending without a ticket will be turned away. Adult tickets are NOT required.

PODS Stop Motion Video Club

Monday 13th May 2024 at PODS Hub, 1 Hawksworth Road, Central Park, Telford, TF2 9TU

PODS Stop Motion Video Club resumes from Jan 2024. The children/young people will be provided with Lego and Ipads to help make the stop motion videos. Cost is £3 per child/young person.

PODS Mental Health Drop In

Tuesday 14th May 2024 from 10am-11.30am at PODS Hub, 1 Hawksworth Road, Central Park, Telford, TF2 9TU 

Come and join us for our Mental Health Drop In, in a safe and non-judgemental environment. We will have tea, coffee, biscuits, cakes, a listening ear ready for you and a goody bag treat for all the attendees. 

Whether you would like to off load, have a warm cuppa, or just want someone to talk too. We are here for you.

PODS Social Support Group - Cake Decoration Workshop

PODS Social Support Group at Blists Hill

Thursday 23rd May 2024 from 10am-12pm at Blists Hill Victorian Town, Telford, TF7 5UD

Come and join us at PODS Family Group in Blists Hill Victorian Town for a chat, relax and meet with friendly faces. Ask us for some advice or just enjoy a walk around the village. 

Tickets are available at a subsidised cost of £3 per person. PODS will provide 1 tea/coffee/soft drink to each person booked, however you will have to purchase your own other refreshments if required. Places are limited and booking is essential, open to all PODS members living in Telford and Wrekin.

Please note that the tickets are non-refundable. Children, of any age, are welcome however if they are under 2 years old, no ticket is required. We will be meeting at the entrance at 10am, please let us know if you will be late or can no longer make it so as the group can enter on time.

Saturday 15th June from 1pm-3pm at PODS Hub, 1 Hawksworth Road, Central Park, Telford, TF2 9TU

At Wrekin Special Swimming Club, we are dedicated to providing inclusive swimming sessions for individuals of all ages with disabilities and special needs. Our mission is to create a supportive and welcoming environment where everyone can enjoy the joys of swimming and the benefits it brings.

As a volunteer with Wrekin Special Swimming Club, you will have the opportunity to:

Support our swimmers during sessions, providing encouragement and assistance as needed. Help with administrative tasks and committee work to ensure the smooth running of our club. Contribute your ideas and creativity to help us continually improve and grow. Make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals with disabilities, fostering a sense of belonging and achievement.

No prior experience is necessary – all you need is a positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and a passion for helping others. Whether you're a seasoned swimmer or simply someone who wants to give back to their community, we welcome you with open arms.
