BBC News Story: Adult Social Care The BBC are doing a story about the strains on Adult Social Care and the impact on individuals and families. They are planning to come to Telford the week commencing 8th April for interviews, and have asked if any of our families would be willing to share their experiences of Adult Social Care. If you are interested, could you please email me with your NAME, CONTACT INFORMATION and a BRIEF SUMMARY OF YOUR EXPERIENCE to pass onto them: matt@podstelford.org Thank you in advance! Could You Offer Some Time to Support Children with SEND by Acting as a Scribe for their Upcoming GCSE Exams? Information below has been shared with us: "This would typically involve sitting with a pupil in their GCSE exams and reading the questions to them and writing down their responses and if requested, reading their responses back to them. A typical pupil sits eight subjects and there are 2-3 exams per subject. The exams commence in May 2024 and end in June 2024. Exams vary in duration from 75 minutes to 180 minutes (this includes the 25% extra time allowance that most EAA pupils are entitled to). Some pupils will make full use of this time, others may not. It is sometimes the case that a pupil will sit two exams per day, one in the morning session and one in the afternoon session. You will need to be able to write reasonably quickly and legibly. Training will be provided by the school and will take no more than one hour. It would also be beneficial for you to come into school to meet the pupil you would be working with in advance of the exams starting. As the role involves working with children the school will need to apply for an enhanced DBS certificate on your behalf. You would need to be able to pop in and see us during school hours for approximately 15-30 minutes to complete this process" National Siblings Day on 10th April Sharing from from Sibs Charity... "Join us in celebrating National Siblings Day on 10th April – a global awareness day recognising brothers and sisters! At Sibs, we know what a valuable role siblings play in the lives of their disabled brothers and sisters, how unique their relationship can be and how they need to be recognised and celebrated in their own right too! You can find out more about the day, download resources for schools and workplaces as well as lots of materials for young siblings to get involved at www.sibs.org.uk/nsd.
