NADS Ambassador Danny Wallace tops Black List Community Award

Aoron Mokoena, DJ Spoony and Danny Wallce receiving his award

NADS Ambassador and ex England star Danny Wallace has been honoured for his amazing work on behalf of NADS (National Association of Disabled Supporters).

The FA hosted the third annual Black List awards at Wembley Stadium and it was fantastic to see former the Manchester United and Southampton frontman, pick up the Community Award from Aoron Mokoena, South Africa’s World Cup captain.

Danny is well known to many NADS members for his great work both as an Ambassador and as a fundraiser. NADS Chair, Joyce Cook, who also attended the presentation, was thrilled to see him get this award:

“He supports NADS at various disability awareness projects in schools which aim to bring disabled and non disabled pupils together. Naturally, using football as a backdrop, especially someone who has played at the highest level, can be hugely influential and helps people get a far clearer picture about accessibility” said Cook. “Danny takes these events very seriously, ending with wide ranging question and answer sessions on being a footballer at the top level and on becoming disabled. Danny speaks from the heart and with experience. He always makes himself available for photos and signings. We could not ask for a better Ambassador for the work of NADS”.

The evening was well attended with a guest list that resembled a ‘Who’s Who’ of black professional players past and present; Master of Ceremonies for the night was Spoony, well known to those of you who listen in to Radio One, where he presents the weekend breakfast show.

Wallace made his league debut (replacing an injured Kevin Keegan) for Southampton in 1980 and went on to a highly successful career including time at Manchester United and being capped for England. A diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis brought his career in football to a premature end.
Meanwhile, Danny was as humble as ever on receiving this recognition for his work.

“It’s my first time at the Black List and there are a few people here that I haven’t seen for about 20 years so it’s been a great evening,” said Wallace who was capped by England in 1986 and is now an ambassador for the National Association of Disabled Supporters.

“I’m surprised to win an award but I feel it’s very important to give back to the community.”

No surprise to us, Danny - well done!
