PODS Forum Parent Carer Pamper Evening

Friday 14th June 2019 from 6pm-9pm at The Wakes, Theatre Square, Oakengates, TF2 6EP 

Treat yourself to an evening of pampering and come along to our parent carer night. Open to all ladies and gentlemen who are members of PODS and any friends and relatives. Children are more than welcome to come along and make use of our craft area, however will not be able to take part in treatments. We have lots on offer, including, Spray Tans, Eyelash Tints, Neck & Shoulder Massage and many more. All treatments have a maximum price of £5 each. The event is free to attend and will include light refreshments. There will also be a raffle on the night with many great prizes including Beauty and cake vouchers. We look forward to seeing you there!

Beam Workshops in June

Please see the timetable below for Beam's workshops throughout June. They are also running an Exam Stress Hub on Monday in Telford, and Thursday in Shrewsbury.  Resources relating to this are available at all their drop-ins. Their anxiety workshop for primary-aged children will continue on Tuesday and Thursday as planned.

Mark Taylor Support Ltd - Social16+ Consultation

Mark Taylor Support Ltd is excited to announce that we will soon be launching our Social 16+ project.

This project will have a focus on providing small group support opportunities for service users 16 and over, as well as linking in with existing and new 1:1 and 2:1 support work for our 16+ service users. The project will also be working closely with our successfully established Life Skills Project.

The project will be led by our new Social16+ Project Manager - Leanne Hammond.

We will be holding a Service User, Parent and Carers open consultation evening on Monday 3 June 2019 between 5pm and 8pm at Hollinswood Community Centre, 7 Downemead, Telford TF3 2EW.

We would welcome people to attend as an opportunity to gain further information about the project but most importantly to share ideas and feedback about the type of support and activities that they feel are needed as we are committed to ensuring service users and their families remain at the centre of the planning and delivery of the project from its outset.

The project aims to offer positive support opportunities, aimed focused on increasing independence and self confidence its members as well as providing a platform for peer group socialisation and the formation and maintenance of new and existing friendships.

Dimensions June Autism Friendly Screenings

Dimensions provide free national autism friendly training for all cinemas across the country. They also partner directly with ODEON, Cineworld, Vue, Showcase and Picturehouse to host autism friendly screenings at over 350 cinemas nationwide.

Government Review on School Exclusions Raises Alarm Over High Proportion of Pupils with SEND Affected

From Council for Disabled Children: "The review’s findings identify children with special education needs and disability to be at high risk of being excluded from school. 78% of permanent exclusions related to pupils with SEN, or classified as being ‘in need’. In light of this finding, the review called for greater support for schools to help them understand and respond to the needs of children who are at risk of being excluded, especially those with SEND"... continues here

Evaluation of OFSTED/CQC Inspection

Wednesday 5th June from 10am-11am at Darby House, Telford, TF3 4JA

OFSTED and the Care Quality Commission are evaluating the way in which they inspect local area SEND. They are inviting parent carers to comment on their aproach to the inspection and how it can be improved.

A focus group will take place and inspectors will be there as researchers, collecting evidence from parent arers on how effectively the inspection and the reporting works.

How local areas identify the needs of chidlren and young peole with SEND;

How local areas meet the needs of these children and young people so that their outcomes and chances of participating fully in society improve.

Please note they are there to EVALUATE the effectiveness of the inspection practice andnot to make comments on local are or individual cases. The original inspection took place in 2017.
