Weeks of Action Launch 2018

Weeks of Action Launch 21st February 2018
#OurMatchday

On Wednesday 21st February, Level Playing Field hosted the official launch event for its 13th ‘Weeks of Action’ campaign (3rd – 18th March).

This year’s theme is ‘Our Matchday’.

Tony Taylor, Chair and Owain Davies, Chief Executive of Level Playing Field spoke about the importance of raising awareness of access and inclusion and how the Weeks of Action campaign drives greater inclusion. We also heard from Anne Hyde, Secretary of Arsenal’s Disabled Supporters’ Association (DSA) for her insight on the benefits of attending a matchday and what her club have done to improve the experience for their disabled fans.

Level Playing Field were delighted to see everyone there to support the launch of Weeks of Action 2018 and would like to thank all the clubs, DSAs and partner organisations who are already signed up to helping us promote this year’s theme #OurMatchday. We have had a fantastic response so far with participants committing to deliver guards of honour in LPF t-shirts, DSA launches, accessibility tours, invisible disability awareness sessions, Mascots sporting LPF t-shirts, and interviews with fans that we look forward to sharing, as well as much more.

We want clubs, Disabled Supporters’ Associations, Governing Bodies and fans themselves to promote what’s being done well. Level Playing Field’s Chief Executive, Owain Davies wrapped up the event by saying ‘We hope that by sharing these positive experiences we will not only enhance existing facilities and services but also open opportunities for new disabled fans to engage in live sport.’

There is still time to get involved; just let us know what you are hoping to do to help us promote #OurMatchday. Whether you have a match during those dates or just want to do a news story or some tweeting about #OurMatchday, every bit of support that you can lend to promoting the positive effects of attending matchdays and inspiring more disabled fans to attend games will help.

You can see some of the things that people got up to last year for our ‘Game Changers’ theme in our March 2017 news stories here.
