CAFE publishes Week of Action 2016 summary report

The CAFE Week of Action 2016 was held from 2-10 April, with activities taking place across Europe and beyond.

For the first time, the CAFE Week of Action 2016 expanded beyond Poland and Ukraine and a total of 13 countries have participated in this year's celebrations.

In addition to activities in Poland and Ukraine, the message of Total Football Total Access was celebrated in Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, England, France, FYR Macedonia, Germany, Portugal, Scotland and Wales. Activities also spread beyond Europe to Brazil, where access and inclusion was celebrated under the umbrella of the CAFE Week of Action. A further celebration of access and inclusion is planned to take place in Northern Ireland later this month.

CAFE would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who has participated in the CAFE Week of Action 2016.

CAFE launches European survey - add your feedback and HAVE YOUR SAY!

As part of our ongoing works, CAFE aims to gain a better understanding of disabled supporters’ match-day experiences and the challenges still faced. In conjunction with the CAFE Week of Action 2016 – Total Football Total Access – we are pleased to launch the CAFE European survey 2016.

We are calling on disabled fans, their companions and football stakeholders to take part in this survey. We want to know about your experiences, and the remaining barriers that you believe are preventing all disabled football fans from attending live matches.

The survey can be accessed here.

The survey is also available in French, German, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish.

Alternatively, if you would prefer a hard copy, of if you require assistance in completing the survey, please contact Joanna Deagle: Tel +44 (0)208 621 2408 | Email: joanna@cafefootball.eu

Thank you for your continued support and co-operation.

National disabled supporters group launched in France

As part of the CAFE Week of Action 2016 celebrations, disabled fans and their advocates came together from across France to establish a national disabled supporters group.

Representatives from many of the disabled supporters groups in France met in Saint-Etienne to hold the first general assembly of Fédération Française de Supporters de Football Handicapés (French Federation of Disabled Football Supporters - FFSFH).

FFSFH will be working with disabled fans from across France towards improving access and inclusion at French football stadiums.

CAFE wishes FFSFH every success for the future, and we look forward to the group playing an active role in improving the matchday and non-matchday experience of disabled people in France.

Player sues former club for disability discrimination

The former Newcastle United midfielder Jonás Gutiérrez has won a disability discrimination claim against the club after being dropped as a result of his battle with testicular cancer.

Gutiérrez sued the club after managers told him he would no longer feature in the club’s future just two months after he had surgery. In its ruling, the tribunal said: “We find as a fact therefore that the respondent was deliberately managing the claimant’s selection to prevent him triggering the option [of extension]. We concluded that the reason why the respondent managed the claimant’s selection was because they had no longer wanted him at the club because of his cancer.”
